How to Wash Lace and Satin Panties
Wash lace and satin panties in cold water, by hand or in a mesh bag on a delicate cycle, with a mild detergent, then lay them flat to dry. Skip the dryer and fabric softener to protect the elastic.
By hand
- Fill a basin with cold water and a little mild detergent.
- Soak for 10 minutes, swish gently, do not wring.
- Rinse in cold water, press out water with a towel.
- Lay flat to dry, away from direct heat.
In the machine
Use a mesh laundry bag, a cold delicate cycle and a low spin. Wash with similar colors; black lace and wine shades can bleed in the first washes.
What to avoid
- Hot water and the dryer weaken elastane.
- Fabric softener coats fibers and dulls satin.
- Bleach breaks down lace.
Bras and sets
Hook the bra closed before washing so it does not snag lace. Molded cups keep their shape best when hand washed. See lingerie sets.
