Panty Size Chart and How to Measure Your Hips
To find your panty size, wrap a soft tape around the fullest part of your hips and match the number to a size chart: 38 to 39 inches is a medium. Waist matters for high-rise cuts. Here is the full method.
What you need
A soft measuring tape and two minutes. Measure over bare skin or thin underwear, standing straight with your feet together.
Step 1, hips
Find the fullest part of your hips and seat, usually around the top of your thighs. Keep the tape level all the way around, snug but not pulling. Write the number down.
Step 2, waist
Measure the narrowest part of your torso, usually an inch above the belly button. This matters for high waisted panties and briefs.
Step 3, read the chart
| Size | US | Hips (in) |
|---|---|---|
| XS | 0 to 2 | 34 to 35 |
| S | 4 to 6 | 36 to 37 |
| M | 8 to 10 | 38 to 39 |
| L | 12 to 14 | 40 to 42 |
| XL | 16 | 43 to 45 |
| XXL | 18 to 20 | 46 to 48 |
The full chart with waist and centimeters is on our size guide.
Between two sizes
Stretch decides. Lace and seamless fabrics stretch more, so take the smaller size in thongs and cheeky cuts. Cotton has less give, so size up in cotton briefs and boyshorts.
Signs the size is wrong
- The waistband rolls down or leaves a red mark: too small.
- The leg openings gape or the fabric bunches: too big.
- A ridge at the hip under leggings: try a size up or a seamless style.
