How to choose bridal underwear for your dress

Start with the dress, not the lingerie. A ball gown, an A-line with a full skirt or a heavy crepe sheath hides almost anything, so you are free to wear the white lace you want to be seen in later. A fitted mermaid, a satin slip or a clingy crepe column shows every edge, and there the only safe pair is one with no edge at all.

Then think about the whole day. You will be in the same underwear for ten to fourteen hours, through photos, a ceremony, dinner and dancing, often after a morning of hair and makeup in a robe. Comfort over that stretch matters as much as how the pair looks in the hotel room, and a cotton gusset, a waistband that does not roll and your true size do most of the work.

White or skin tone under a white wedding dress

White underwear looks brighter than skin under white or ivory fabric, so under a thin or fitted gown it shows its outline in photos, especially with flash and in direct sun. A shade close to your skin tone has no contrast and disappears. That is why many bridal stylists suggest a skin-tone pair under the gown even when the rest of the trousseau is white.

Under a lined gown, a full skirt or heavy fabric, white lace is fine and nobody will see it. If you are unsure, take both to your final fitting and check them in daylight and with a phone flash. Fabric, fit and when to order

The lace pieces are 88 percent nylon and 12 percent elastane stretch lace, so they move with you instead of scratching. Every panty has a 100 percent cotton gusset. The seamless thong is 76 percent nylon and 24 percent elastane microfiber. Hand wash the lace cold and lay it flat to dry, and keep it out of the dryer.
